  1. Accepting help – asking for it, even – is difficult for strong women.

The concept reminded me of a passage from Pride’s Children: NETHERWORLD:

…“I should feel guilty that your future is now tied to mine, and you’ve chosen to live with whatever I have to give.”

“Let me do the giving, luv.”

“A novel concept, not being the strong one.”

“Oh, ye’ll be strong, luv, just not alone. We’ll work it out—talking with ye is easy, if ye do not go all self-sacrificin’ on me.”

“You won’t minimize what I tell you?” He knew her limitations, didn’t care, believed her. He will listen.

“Nor leave ye alone to battle aught.” He stroked her hair.

    “You know I’m right—about everything.”

“Aye, me rational-thinking luv. But ye didn’t count on me to help.”

“I’m liking this Andrew. A lot.” Her defenses crumbled frangibly in the background like ancient stonework.

    1. Oh Andrew, such a catch that man. Sigh. I need to get started on Netherworld soon, I miss Andrew.

Asking for help is so difficult. Or even accepting it when offered. This is a struggle that I have all the time.

      1. That was NOT my purpose in putting that bit out there; contributing something to the conversation was my motivation. But I hope you do, some day.

My biggest problem is that my excerpts always seem to be too long – probably because I do that when I write, not go for the shortest path.

I could potentially be asking for help all the time; I try to keep it to the essential help so I don’t exhaust the givers. Which means I often do the same: not asking for it. Even if I need the help. If I CAN do it myself.

      2. Of course, I know that wasn’t the intent. It was a great excerpt and sparked a similar feeling as the one I posted. So I understand.
